We are excited to bring you a new tool for your healthy aging toolbox:
VO₂ Max Testing!
VO₂ testing is a simple, science-backed way to measure your cardiorespiratory fitness. While traditionally used for athletes seeking to enhance performance and endurance, VO₂ testing has entered the modern healthcare space in the past several years for all fitness levels because VO₂ max is so consistently linked in scientific literature to better heart health, metabolic health, and longevity.
Why VO₂ testing matters for your health.
Think of VO2 max as your “engine.” The bigger it is, the more oxygen you can take in to perform physical work. Research shows:
- People with higher VO₂ max scores have lower risk of heart disease, stroke, early death, and Alzheimer’s disease
- VO₂ max is one of the best predictors of longevity — even more powerful than blood pressure or cholesterol.
- Unlike many risk factors, you can improve VO2 max with the right exercise program.
In short: VO₂ testing tells you how strong your “engine” is today and gives you a roadmap to make it stronger tomorrow.
How we test you.
VO₂ testing is for all fitness levels, with a minimum age of 14 and can be done on a treadmill or bike. We have the option of doing a maximum effort test or generate extrapolated results with a sub maximal test.
- You will be wearing a breathing mask that is connected to our VO2 testing device which measures your expired air; you will also be wearing a heart rate strap around your torso.
- The test will start easy and progressively increase in intensity until we’ve reached the appropriate thresholds. The test will be hard! But only for a few minutes. Then we will return you to a cool down to collect recovery metrics. From start to finish, the test will take 8-15 minutes.
- You’ll get your results instantly and create a training plan with me.
What you’ll learn from a VO₂ test.
Your test results give you:
- VO₂ max number — the gold standard measure of your aerobic fitness.
- Heart rate zones — the exact ranges where you should train for fat burning, endurance, or performance.
- Aerobic and Anaerobic Thresholds — the points where the increase in intensity forces your body to shift to faster, but less efficient, means for producing energy. Think of these thresholds as your “miles per gallon” – the higher the thresholds, the more efficient at using the oxygen you are taking in.
- A personalized plan — clear recommendations on how to exercise to improve your fitness, heart health, and energy that are not just focused on adding MORE to your schedule – but making your current training more efficient and precise.
Sustainable health and fitness is at the core of everything we do. And we are thrilled to be offering VO2 testing. If you want to get on the schedule or have any questions about VO2 testing, fill out our contact form or give us a call. We look forward to hearing from you!
